The journey of Juno

After 5 years and 1.7 billion miles, our latest satellite makes its bid for interplanetary stardom. At 11:18 PM EDT, Juno will fire its rocket engine in its bid to enter orbit around that giant gasbag Jupiter. It will be keeping a lo-gain antenna aimed at Earth the whole time, but no help or assist will be possible during the 35-minute burn; one-way radio delay is currently about 49 minutes. F-ing lightspeed limit, amirite?

Anyway, whatever your goodluck ritual may be, it wouldn’t hurt to do it on Juno’s behalf.

update: Juno made it! In orbit around Jupiter! :D
